In the fall of 1995, I spent three months in Venice, doing research for my dissertation, which is concerned with the relationship of various parts of Venice's landscape--physical, ritual, and otherwise--to Venetian painting in the late 15th and 16th centuries. I spent a lot of time looking at how Venice was put together and the ways in which you get around the city. So what I thought I'd do with some of my photographs is to show you various aspects of the city by topic. You get eighteen different tours or navigable paths through the city. Some of them intersect. Happy wandering!
